Saint Luke not only is the patron saint of artists but is thought to have been an artist himself. Pious tradition tells us that he painted the first icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the top of the Holy Family’s dinner table (and Polish tradition says that that icon is the one that came to be known as Our Lady of Czestochowa).

October Feast Days:

St Teresa of Avila is the 15th, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque is the 16th, St. Ignatius of Antioch is the 17th and St. Luke the Evangelist is the 18th.

This is an historic moment for the Catholic Church in America.

Tomorrow night, CATHOLICISM premieres on PBS stations (WTTW-11 in Chicago), the presenting TV station for the epic series by Fr. Barron and Word On Fire.
